When you are choosing a possible husband there are several quality's that you need to be thinking about. Does the man you are thinking about have good income, handsome, sensible, a good since of humor, do you and him love each other, and does he have good principles?
In Jane Austen times it was looked down upon for women to throw themselves at men, so you had t0 be able to show that you were interested in a guy by talking to his family about him, to the things that he likes to do like read a book if he likes reading, offer to do little things for him, find him irresistible, also flatter his vanity, and finally ask him if he wants to go "stargazing".
As a mother one of your duties and your most important duty is to marry off all of your daughters. But you can not just walk up to a man and say will you marry my daughter? You have to do it more elegant. You need to find a likely man, you and his mother need to have a bonding time, tell your daughter to go to dances, if another man starts trying to flirty with her tell him that she is already in a relationship with someone else, take your daughter to his house and encourage her to think of her as the woman who runs that house, make your daughter sound amazing talk about how close you are, tell her about the advantages of marriage.
